From The Pantagraph:
A Bloomington District 87 teacher has received a $10,000 grant to help students see learning about science, technology, engineering and math in a new way.
“I hope kids don’t just see STEM as science and math. All learning is blended learning. You need language arts skills to do research, and you need science to complete projects,” said Mike Jones, a seventh-grade science teacher at Bloomington Junior High School and STEM teacher at the high school.
Jones received a Beyond the Box grant for $10,000 from the Beyond the Books Educational Foundation in cooperation with the Shirk Family Foundation.
The grant will supply District 87 schools with STEM reading activities, books, lab materials and professional development events for teachers. Jones said the grant likely will affect more than 1,000 students.
