Lisa Tomlin – $9,973 – Crosscutting the Common Core
Intended for students in grades 9-12, Crosscutting the Common Core is a science department initiative that moves the teaching of science from traditional approach with passive learning to an inquiry based approach. This style of learning moves the teacher from a director role to a facilitator and allows the students to be active participants that will result in students becoming better problem solvers and risk takers. This approach will be utilized in 9th grade biology and honors biogogy, 10th grade chemistry and honors chemistry, 11th grade physics and biotechnical engineering and 12th grade AP Biology and AP Chemistry.
The grant will impact 1750 students and will begin implementation next school year. Co-writers of the grant include Angela Codron, Mary Jo Douglass, Jessica King, Amy Sherman and David Weber.
