Kingsley Junior High was the beneficiary of the first ever Beyond the Box $10,000 grant. Here is an article from The Pantagraph hat discusses the program and the children it benefited.
Throughout the year, about 250 seventh- and eighth-graders learned about water using tools that included netbook computers, books and field trips. Then they shared their lessons with the third graders, for whom “water” is part of the curriculum.
“I enjoy seeing the eighth-graders turn into the teachers,” said Heather Young, a Beyond the Books Educational Foundation board member and director of the Children’s Discovery Museum. “It really confirms we made the right choice.”
The Kingsley project was selected among 21 applications from Bloomington District 87 and Normal-based Unit 5 schools.
